Tips for Choosing Cabinet Door Styles For Your Kitchen

When it comes to defining the aesthetic of a kitchen, cabinetry is the element that creates the biggest impact both with design and functionality.  The layout of the cabinetry is imperative in creating a flow and specific features that work best for your individual home and the way you and your family use your kitchen.

The design or aesthetic of your kitchen is equally important, and the cabinetry is again the element that creates the biggest impact and creates the overall feel or look of the space.  A lot of thoughtful work goes into selecting the perfect cabinets, but finding the perfect door style is one of the most fun. Here are my best tips for choosing cabinet doors to create the kitchen of your dreams.

Classic Cabinetry Selections

There are so many styles and aesthetics for cabinets, a great place to begin is defining a desired style. For a timeless aesthetic, there are many options within this genre. Traditional style cabinets are characterized by raised panels or more decorative flat panels, elaborate motifs, rich and decorative aesthetics, and colors and materials skillfully designed to create a traditional appearance.

By contrast, Craftsman, Shaker or Transitional cabinets are a decorative style that feature simple, straight lines and minimal ornamentation.

For a trendier, but still timeless approach, Farmhouse cabinets are inspired by rustic or simple homes and farms, and often make use of quality hardwoods that are left with their raw, natural finish, or painted in white or light colors. This “Transitional” style of cabinetry is always a reliable selection, and features clean lines and a functional design.

Cottage-style offers a compromise of a more classic approach, while still dedicated to employing soft hues, delicate paneling, and simple accents. For those living in a seaside community, or who enjoy feeling transported away to one, coastal cabinets bring the ambiance of seaside cottages and homes, and implement weathering and natural wood tones.

Contemporary Cabinet Choices

If classic and timeless isn’t the vision in mind, there are endless possibilities. Whether the desired goal is minimalistic and simple, dimensional and complex, or strives to be an extension of your environment, there’s a cabinet choice that will bring any vision to life.

Modern or Contemporary styles are a high contrast to traditional styles, and make use of newer materials and surfaces such as combining woods, laminates, glass, metal, and more to achieve a unique vibe.
